Full-Time EAL/PYP Teaching Position

Details: ISN (International School of Nagano) is an English-Japanese bilingual preschool, elementary school and middle years school situated on a in Matsumoto-shi in Japan’s beautiful Nagano Prefecture, serving families in the Matsumoto region and surrounding communities. With a great capacity in 6 classes at our Minami-Matsumoto Campus (preschool), and newly opened Shimauchi Campus (preschool and elementary school) we enroll students age 2 to Grade 5 in 2019. ISN is an IB school. 

A wonderfully diverse school currently serving about 160 students with a vibrant and dedicated faculty, devoted parents, and committed Board of Education. ISN’s teacher to student ratio is on average 1:15 and this excellent ratio enables experienced ISN teachers to conduct an IB based approach to the curriculum. The main duty of the teacher is to lead their class with excitement and passion for a world standard education while implementing the inquiry approach to instruction. Candidates should have experience in collaborative leadership, high expectations for faculty, staff, and all students, and be able to inspire the whole-school. 

This job description should be read in conjunction with the teacher’s contract. The teachers are the essence of the work of the school. Each teacher is responsible for the education of the students in his/her class(es). In addition, it is the role of each teacher to be sure that all students are safe, secure and properly supervised at all times. 2 years renewable contract. Visa will be provided to the successful candidate(s). 

Main job description
A. 8:00-17:00 Homeroom teacher
B. 10:00-19:00 English language supporter/ After-school program instructor/ Seasonal program instructor/ Substitute teacher when required

Duties of position: A. Homeroom teacher 8:00-16:00 or B. EAL/After-school program instructor 10:00-19:00 
Common duties - Teachers should arrive sufficiently early to ‘begin’ working in the office or teaching at the prescribed starting time and cleans and tidies up the classroom before s/he leaves. We are open from Monday to Friday.
Duties for 8:00-14:00 - The teacher is responsible for submitting the weekly plan for each class through collaboration planning /before the teachers meeting every week. For the young learners, activities includes games, playing with toys and friends, reading, music, sports, plays, individual, small group large group works and lots of other activities. 
Duties for 10:00-19:00 - The regular tasks and duties are to support homeroom teachers and/or administration staff members. The after school program starts at 4 pm by greeting children who are arriving for the ISN after-school program and ends at 7pm. The program follows The Project (after-school programme): 

The start date of the position is *December 1st, 2019. 2 years renewable contract. The recruited teacher should arrive in Matsumoto about 10-15 days before the day so s/he’ll have some rest, time to settle down and could attend our 5-days school training (6 hours and 1 hour break, paid 5,000 yen per day). The school can help you to prepare for your accommodation. *the day might be changed

Key Relationships 
The Teacher will develop and maintain effective working relationships with: 
• Head of School/ ISN PYP Coordinator / Local and International PYP Coordinator Networks / School leadership team / School teachers / Administration staff / Parents and learners 

Experience 
• Experience in teaching young learners with diverse needs
• Experience of teaching the PYP (preferred minimum of 2 years) 
• Experience in an international school environment (preferred) 
• Experience and knowledge of curriculum design and development 

Knowledge and Understanding 
• Deep knowledge and understanding of the PYP
• Practical and theoretical understanding of effective teaching and learning strategies for young learners 
• Relevant preschool curriculum knowledge 

Person Qualities 
• A demonstrated and genuine liking and appreciation of children / Inclusive / Flexible and adaptable

Salary
1. An employee with University diploma/certificate: 250,000 yen/m
2. An employee with teaching degree: 260,000 yen/m
3. An employee without teaching degree and a teaching experience at preschool/ daycare/ kindergarten/ more than 3 years as a classroom teacher (not a relief teacher nor an assistant teacher): 270,000 yen/m
4. An employee with teaching degree and a teaching experience at preschool/daycare/kindergarten/ more than 3 years as a classroom teacher (not a relief teacher nor an assistant teacher): 280,000 yen/m
5. An employee with teaching degree and a teaching experience at primary/middle years school more than 3 years as a classroom teacher (not a relief teacher nor an assistant teacher): 290,000 yen/m
