I would like to take a course that would qualify me to teach English in Saudi Arabia. However, people who work there have told me that a course, rather than a degree, will not qualify me to teach English in Saudi. I do have a BS from an American college, and many years of teaching experience, but my degree is not in the field of education. Any advice?

I suggest looking at the ads for English teachers in Saudi and seeing the requirements. I don't have personal experience in Saudi (tried, but my age prohibited issuance of a work visa). Good luck!

You are best to take the TrintyCert TESOL face-to-face program. Saudi will not accept online credentials. You will benefit from the interaction anyway. The TrintyCert is highly prized and recognized around the world due to it complex nature. Alternatively, you can also take a CELTA program. I guess it depends on your finances.

Look into taking a CELTA. Along with an unrelated degree, you WILL be able to find work in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi is not difficult at the moment. You only need a Degree and teaching certificate (CELTA or DELTA or TEFL). Unfortunately, some bright spark (NOT!) at the top in Saudi has decided that your Degree should be in English or linguistics which is misguided at best, ignorant at worst. So this is the current misguided trend. It doesn't matter if you've been teaching for 100 years, you won't be successful unless you have a legitimate teaching certificate. Other advice - avoid PNU. The pay there is the poorest I've seen so far and the recruitment process is exceptionally long (up to five months) PLUS you have to pay for all the attestations and that can be up to 2000 pounds. In the advertising, they say, single accomodation and then when you see the contract, it says shared. Disingenuous? You decide. As previously blogged, avoid recruiters who think Dubai is in Saudi Arabia or, and I have seen this on the Serious website, in some other part of the world that is NOT Saudi Arabia! Who wants to deal with recruiters that ignorant?

Yes, in most case they are right. However since you have a Bs degree, take the next step and get a MA in TESOL. In America, it is usually 1 or 2 years max. Trust me, l have.talked to friends who are teaching in Saudi and this is what they said: "An MA in TESOL will really set you up very good". That's why, l am doing at the current moment.

Nowadays it doesn't a matter to have a master degree or teaching certificate. That case in many Saudi International Schools , just keep applying and eventually you will get a reply for a job for at lease $3000 SR. a month. Wish you all the best.
