Details: Thank you for your interest in Uchon Immersion Elementary School! I am the Immersion Program (IP) Director/English Coordinator at Uchon Elementary School in Seoul, Korea.
With continued growth and expansion, Uchon Immersion School is accepting resumes for new positions available in all Grades 1-5. We anticipate openings in our Pre-K and Kindergarten. School begins on March 1, 2010 and new teacher orientation will take place the week prior.
Uchon IS NOT a Hogwan. It is an accredited private, Korean Elementary School Prek-6th Grade.
Uchon was founded 40 years ago as a Mission school in 2006 received a special charter from the Ministry of Education to become one of only a handful of immersion education schools in Korea. The IP began in the 1st Grade then and has grown into 1st-5th Grades for 2010.
In Grades 1-5, Immersion (IP) teachers are co-homeroom teachers with their Korean partner teacher. Each homeroom class has 24-28 students. The HR class is divided in into an ?A? and ?B? group with 12-14 students in each group. When ?A? group is receiving Korean curriculum, ?B? group is with Foreign Teacher receiving their English curriculum. Later teachers exchange groups. Content classes are: Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math.
Uchon is a special opportunity for language educators to be involved in an organic situation that allows for unique professional growth and experience.
• First year salary range is between 2.2 and 2.5 Million Won per month.
• A bonus of one month?s salary at the end of the year.
• All employees receive National Health Insurance split 50/50 with the school
• A private, studio apartment near the school with an additional 100,000 Won toward utilities each month (or a 600,000 Won per month housing allowance).
• 750,000 Won travel stipend
• Relocation allowance
• Airport pick-up and assistance
• Assistance in Quality of Life issues related to living in a foreign country
• Sick Days and Compassionate Leave for family emergencies
Monthly payroll deductions are for taxes, insurance, lunch (if wanted) and a monthly pension contribution (which is matched by the school).
The workday is Mon-Fri 8:30 - 4:45, Homeroom begins at 8:30 and the 1st class begins at 8:50. School dismisses at 3:30. The workday concludes at 4:45. 10 weeks vacation.
• 30 instructional blocks (class periods of 40 minutes) per week.
• Students go to Specialist teachers for music, art, computer, Bible, etc.
• No weekends, overtime, or evening requirements (other than 4-6 special PTA and School functions each year).
• Normal parental contact and custodial care of a Homeroom teacher.
Teachers with the following degrees/experiences are especially encouraged to apply:
• Elementary or Secondary Certification in the US or Canada
• 120 Hour + TESOL/TEFL certification from accredited programs.
• Education/TESOL/TEFL/Linguistics or Language Majors or Minors
• Early Childhood/Social Studies/English/the Arts
• Previous experience in an International School
• Previous experience Immersion Model Education
• 2+ years in Korea or Asia teaching Elementary aged EFL/ESL children
• Previous Homeroom Teacher or extensive Substitute/Supply Teacher experience
Uchon is located in Central Seoul in Seoung Buk Gu on Subway Line 4, stop 419: Han Sung Dae (University). We are between HyeWa and Sung Shin Dae, just a few stops from DongdaeMoon and not far from Seoul Station (Stop 426). SNU and Korea University hospitals are minutes away.
