Details: Job Title: CTP 5 Test Prep Instructor for a Montessori Middle School
Job Description: We are looking for a teacher to lead a 7th grade CTP 5 test prep class at a Montessori middle school in Brooklyn, NY. Ideally, the candidate would be a teacher who previously/currently teaches at a Montessori school and has experience prepping students for CTP exams at the 7th grade level. The teacher would need to utilize a teaching style that reflects Montessori values of respecting students and positive reinforcement. Establishing a strong connection at the start of the course is paramount. A balance of getting work done but not being authoritarian should be achieved. Having a sense of humor and fun teaching style is a plus!
Dates: Fridays 3 - 4:30pm from January 11th, 2019 to May 31st, 2019 (excluding some Fridays for holidays)
Number of classes: 16 classes that are 1.5 hrs each
Total Hours: 24hrs
Rate: Between $50 - $80/hr
Course Description: Our course is structured so that we keep the student to teacher ratio at no more than 15:1. This ensures that students benefit from a small group setting while also receiving personalized attention from the teacher. We will have one lead teacher and one assistant teacher. The classes will be divided to both independent and small group activities. Our instructors will reflect Montessori values utilizing positive reinforcement and respect for the students. BHMS faculty are welcome to sit in on any class as we encourage an open dialogue with the parents and school to better serve the students.
Each class will focus on content and test-taking strategies needed to excel on the exam to answer the multiple choice and open ended questions. The course will cover all topics included in both the English and Math section. Such areas of focus will be Verbal Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Writing Concepts & Skills, Writing Mechanics, Vocabulary, Mathematics and Quantitative Reasoning. The course will also reflect the changes in the CTP 5 exam from last year, as there is a greater focus on critical thinking skills. We provide all sample test materials and students will have a chance to review problem sets during class time.
