Details: HEADMASTER VACANCY AT MOUNT SINAI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL IN MALAWI, AFRICA
Mount Sinai International School first opened in September 2004 and has since then experienced rapid growth with a total of 550 students currently enrolled. The school ranges from Reception through to Upper Sixth (from age 3 to 18). Mount Sinai International School follows the University of Cambridge syllabus, the following assessments are in place, key point examinations in Form 3, IGSCE taken in Form 5 and AS and A2 Taken in Lower and Upper Six respectively.
The school has a proud International teaching team drawn from different countries, UK, USA, Malawi, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Zambia. The school houses students from over thirty (30) different countries of all continents.
Mount Sinai International School occupies an attractive ten-acre site opposite the new Parliament Building in City Centre. Gardens and playing fields surround the main building. Facilities include purpose built classrooms, well-equipped specialist room for computers and spacious multipurpose hall. There is a well stocked library, a spacious science block that houses well-equipped laboratories. The school is currently updating its facilities.
We are looking for a suitable candidate who has at least 10 years experience in education and at least 3 as a Principal/ Head Master. On offer is a good expatriate package (housing and a car included) with a 2 year contract to start in August 2010.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE HEADMASTER AT MOUNTSINAI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Head of School will have responsibility for specific areas of activity within the School, assuming a leadership and decision making role in these areas. The Headmaster must be a dedicated, resourceful education professional with proven ability to do the following,
• Create and monitor policies and practices that promote a safe learning environment
• Ensure effective working relationships and a school culture that encourages continuous improvements for teachers and students. Develop an environment that encourages open communication with colleagues, students and the community.
• Effective Team working skills. Ability to assess individual team and whole school accountability.
• The Head must be able to carry out rigorous school self-evaluation, inspire, challenge and motivate others.
• The Head needs to have the knowledge and understanding of local and national education trends, strategic planning processes, communication strategies, new technologies, change theory, creativity and innovation.
The Head will also be responsible for the following duties:
• Management of the allocation of duties to teaching and support staff to ensure the effective and efficient performance of the school’s teaching, research and service functions.
• Induction and mentorship of new school staff.
• The Head will be the initial contact for new students. Arrangement of academic assessment of new students. Counselling parents about student progress, discipline issues etc.
• The Head will be responsible for exam time tables for the school as well as the Term time table (period and work allocation) for the school.
• Scheduling of the Staff meetings.
• The Head will be responsible for Primary School discipline methods to be used (note corporal punishment is forbidden).
• Evaluating and approving the staff lesson plans or schemes of work for the term. One to one meetings with teachers, class room observations and teacher evaluations.
• Curriculum development
1. Ability to modify curriculum for special needs students to promote a positive learning experience.
2. Prepare objectives and outlines for different courses of study and their comprehensive evaluation, both formative and summative at different year levels.
3. Oversee and control process of teaching, syllabus completion and establish a feedback mechanism
• Staff development, working with Management in the organisation of staff training, identifies staff development opportunities both within and without the School.
• Working with the School Administrator in regards to resource allocation in respect of the general operation of the School.
In addition to the above, the Head of the School will be an ex officio member of the Management Team and will contribute to the overall management and continuing development of the school in that capacity. S/he will be expected to familiarise her/himself with most aspects of School activity.

Ⅲ. Job Description
1. Working Hours: Monday to Friday on a semester basis;
2. Teaching Hours: 22 teaching periods per week;
3. Average Class Size: 20-25;
4. Give Lessons including planning and preparation as well as course development;
5. Conduct course assessment and student academic counseling.

Ⅳ. Job Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree or above in education or related majors;
2. Native English speaker or English skills equivalent to native level;
3. At least three years teaching experience;
4. Teaching Certificate, PGCE,QTS or equivalent is preferred;
5. Caring, suitable and safe to work with children.
