Details: A2Z School of English is recruiting for the position of Academic Manager of our Manchester school. We are a young and growing organisation with schools in Dublin and London and are currently expanding to the Middle East and South America. Our Manchester school requires a professional, enthusiastic and outgoing academic manager. Our Manchester school is accredited by the British Council and has been successfully inspected by ISI. We are also a UKBA highly trusted sponsor. It is a busy, friendly place and we are open all day and based in
the city centre. Our business is a combination of education and travel - we aim to give people an experience that they will remember for the rest of their life, in addition to improving their English.
The role will involve:
*Managing academic quality of English language (EFL) lessons, both traditional
”communicative” style and direct/behaviourist style teaching.
*Sustaining and improving our operational systems, especially in line with customer needs and accreditation/regulatory bodies demands.
*Managing a teaching team of approximately 20 - 30 part and full time teachers, including recruitment, initial and ongoing training, day to day HR and communications, staff social events and record keeping.
*Enrolling, supporting and managing a student body of approximately 250 - 350 students (numbers are seasonal) from a wide variety of countries, ages and backgrounds.
You will be working for and with a dedicated school manager who will handle all the non academic aspects of the school including sales, marketing, student welfare, social events, accommodation and reception staff. The academic role is therefore squarely focussed on academic quality and improvement.
The role is 40 hours per week and will involve some evenings and early mornings – our school is open from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday.
We have schools in London and Dublin as well as a nascent network of franchised schools in South America and the Middle East. We also operate a teacher training and recruitment business, but this is not related directly to this role. All in all it is an exciting time for our business and we believe it is a great position in a lively, friendly international company.
Required for the role:
* ”TEFL-Q” qualification - DELTA, Trinity dip TESOL or MA TESOL (or other equivalent qualification that meets British Council requirements for TEFL-Q.
* A BA Hons degree or similar ”level 6” qualification.
* Native speaker of English or near native level. Candidates will be expected to have an extremely high level of written and spoken English.
*You must have the right to live and work in the UK.
Desirable qualities:
*Currently living within daily travelling distance of Manchester city centre.
*Fun and outgoing personality.
*Experience of direct method teaching - Callan, Avalon, Berlitz etc.
*Experience of EFL management.
*Ability to speak a language other than English to at least an intermediate level.
*Experience of working in cross cultural environments, especially with English language learners.
*A desire to be part of a growing and fast moving company, even if this means constant change.
*Ability and willingness to cope with stress and ambitious targets
*Willingness to manage operations in line with highly specified instructions from management.
* The ability and desire to periodically contribute to discussions about changes in procedure in a mature and professional way.
