Details: Looking for Enthusiastic, Qualified Teachers for Full-Time Positions in Northern Kyushu
Keio Academy, a Japanese company based in Nakatsu-City, Oita Prefecture is seeking
enthusiastic, experienced English teachers to work full time. There are 3 positions,
beginning in March. We are looking for 2 teachers to work with younger students
(elementary and below). We are also looking for a teacher who is qualified to teach
adults, older students and business classes.
Job Description:
For fist positions: The hired teachers will work teaching young (Elementary and
Kindergarten age) Japanese children. They will teach both at our main school facility and
at local elementary schools. The teachers hired will work 5 days a week for a total of 40
working hours per week. There is a maximum of 26.5 classroom-teaching hours and the
rest of the time is for office work and lesson planning. The teacher hired must also be
able to participate in and help plan the various yearly events (such as, Christmas
presentation, English summer camp, field trips and international parties).
For the second position: The hired teacher teach high School students, college students
and adult lessons (small group and business) Like the first position, the teacher hired will
work 5 days a week for a total of 40 working hours per week. There is a maximum of
26.5 classroom-teaching hours and the rest of the time is for office work and lesson
planning. The teacher hired must also be able to participate in and help plan the various
yearly events (such as, Christmas presentation, English summer camp, field trips and
international parties).

City Description:
Nakatsu City is a mid-sized castle town in northern Kyushu. It is the 3rd largest city in
Oita Prefecture. It is big enough to be convenient but small enough to retain its charm. It
is home to many shrines, temples, teahouses and the yearly Gion festival that is a major
attraction of the area. Nakatsu is also home to some very nice hiking trails, cycling paths
and numerous hot springs. It is also very easy to get away for the weekend to a larger
city like Kokura, Hakata or the resort town of Beppu, which are only a short distance by
train.
Company Description:
In 1984 Keio Academy was founded in Northern Kyushu with the goal of establishing an
elite school to enrich and enlighten its students in all areas of education. There are now
three Keio Academy schools in Japan and 1 in Taiwan. We also send teachers to a
number of local school and enhance the overall English environment of the area.

Requirements and Qualifications:
-A native English speaker. English must be your FIRST and primary language
-Bachelor’s degree from a college or university
-Have the desire to live and work in Japan and for a Japanese company
-Professional, responsible attitude for work
-A friendly, outgoing attitude for students
-Have flexibility to succeed in a fast-paced work environment
-For the first position, the applicant will need to be able to sing, dance and make fun
English games and activities
-Priority will be given to applicants with TESOL/CELTA/TEFL or ESL certification and/or
experience teaching children
-This position requires a Japanese or International driver’s license for the duration of your
employment. These are easy to acquire if you are already in possession of a local
license.
-Fluency in Japanese is not required but a knowing some Japanese (or a willingness to
learn) is needed to help communicate with the Japanese teachers.
Pay and benefits:
-Starting salary of between 220,000-250,000yen a month based on experience and skill.
-5 weeks of paid vacation (25 days plus the connected weekends) spread out throughout
the year, 20 days that are pre-set around holidays and 5 days that can be requested at
various times during the school year.

-Free access to a company car for required work travel.
-Employees may also use a company car for personal use at a nominal fee
-Keio will help to find an apartment for the hired teachers and will pay part of the key
money.
-Reimbursement of flight ticket to Japan (up to 100,000yen)
