Details: We provide life-changing education, a nurturing home, and supportive environment to abused, neglected and at-risk girls at Dare campuses around the world. Our ultimate goal is to empower our graduates to become influential change-makers locally as well as within the global community.
The Dare program focuses on the basic academic topics of math, science, humanities, the arts, and physical education, but also challenges each child to find its real world application in sustainably managing areas such as agriculture, oceanography, and economics. Our students leave us with strong analytical and creative thinking skills, a passion to affect positive change, and a deep understanding of how all things are interrelated in the global ecosystem.
Our girls come from dire situations of abuse and neglect. We give them a new life full of opportunity and inspiration.
Our education model is adaptive depending on age and ability. By combining students of similar ages (4-7, 8-12 and 13-17), our learning and teaching techniques foster self-directed student learning skills in small student groups with educators as facilitators or guides.
Our teaching style is highly interactive and experiential. The students learn about microbiology by exploring with microscopes on the beach, about sustainable ocean farming from a paddle board classroom, and music and arts from expert practitioners. Students participate in on campus sustainability practices and leadership training. Smart boards and the latest technology provide content, connectivity and assist with developing an understanding of global economics.
We prepare our students for higher education, including providing scholarship opportunities through partnerships with local and international universities.
Our students leave us empowered and inspired, with strong analytical and creative thinking skills, a passion to affect positive change. Their deep understanding of how all things are interrelated in the global ecosystem will serve them well as they endeavor to make positive change and live fulfilling lives.
Duties:
We will begin serving children in September 2015 on a beautiful property in Ojochal, on the south central Pacific coast of Costa Rica, south of San Jose.
We seek to appoint a visionary Head Educator to lead the development of the Campus with support from the Founder and Executive Director. The successful candidate will have a passion for experiential education and for serving children and the greater good through innovative and sustainable solutions.
Ultimately we will serve approximately 45 students per year at this Dare Campus, but will start the inaugural year with a student body of approximately 15 students ranging from 4 – 12 years old. The Head Educator will run the Dare Campus with the support of teachers (one per age group) and onsite staff with guidance from the Founder and Executive Director.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Express a passion for education, innovation, sustainability and serving at-risk, abused and neglected youth
• Embody the vision of D2MaC in every activity and decision, bringing our mission to life for individual children
• Being a role model and local ambassador of our organization
• Head master of the school
• Develop customized curriculum (with guidance from the Founder)
• Develop Campus policies and programs (with guidance from the Founder and Executive Director)
• Develop relationships and programs with education and extra-curricular activity collaborators
• Recruit expert guest speakers
• Coordinate with Patronato Nacional de la Infancia (PANI) the national organization of the Costa Rican government which is in charge of child welfare throughout the country
• Represent Dare 2 Make a Change at local public relations opportunities
• Management of Campus staff, including: teachers, child supervisors and other support staff
• Handle all Campus administrative needs
• If the inaugural student body is larger than one age-group class, than responsibilities will include teaching a class group.
• Develop and execute appropriate disciplinary policies
• Develop local funding and volunteer support opportunities (with support of Executive Director)
• Work with Executive Director and Founder to develop and implement impact tracking and impact measurement systems
• Live on campus
• 2-year commitment
Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree, in education or other relevant area of study
• 3-5 years teaching experience
• Bilingual (Spanish/English)
• Child development experience
• Program leadership experience
• Experiential curriculum and standard curriculum development experience
• Computer literacy
• Peace Corp service experience (preferred)

1. Bachelor's degree or above in education or related majors;
