We are Sensavanh Bilingual School 2, part of the AIS group, close to Vientiane, Laos.
My name is Justin Love and I have recently taken over as head of English here. I am a
course writer and have developed a unique, powerful, fun and extremely popular
program. My program includes social awareness and I encourage students to help each
other and be responsible and caring individuals. Young people from Laos are very
idealistic and this approach is much appreciated.
I am looking for a bright native English speaker trainee teacher. I teach students from
age 3 to 18 years old and at first you be will assisting me in my classes. As your
experience grows you will be given your own classes to teach. The contract is one year
and you should be fully competent to teach all students before it is completed. Teaching
all age groups is extremely valuable experience as even if you go on to specialize you
will have gained a full insight into the human learning process. I make VDOs all the time
and I have found these extremely useful for getting employed. I think any good teacher
will have no trouble getting an excellent position after completing this contact. I am very
good at getting jobs and will be able to help you make a great presentation.
Sengsavanh is private school with moderate fees, has around 300 students, and the
class size is 15-25. The classrooms are air conditioned, but not very well equipped.
However, my teaching methods are very simple. The school style is relaxed and easy
going. The students are lively, sometimes too lively, but well meaning, charming and
wish to learn. We work pretty much all year round with special courses inbetween terms.
The hours are 8-4, term time, 8.30 - 3.30 inbetween, with reasonable breaks. Free
periods negotiable.
Salary: 400 USD per month (That’s about my basic living costs here), plus free
accommodation. Work permit arranged.
Absolute Requirements:
Good clear English of the type used by news anchors from English speaking countries.
The ability to speak expressively and make a subject sound interesting.
The applicant must be able to write English that is grammatically correct, scans properly
and is easy to read.
Attractive lively personallity, good sense of humor and ability to other people laugh.
Reasonably robust health.
Confidence and the determination to complete any assignment you have accepted
Additional attributes:
If you sing reasonably well that would be great.
Experience in the dramatic arts very useful.
Sport or physical discipline an advantage.
Formal qualifications:
Strictly speaking you do not need any formal qualifications as provided you meet my
absolute requirements, I will teach you everything you need to know. However,
governments often require certificates for visas (the requirements for Lao are somewhat
vague) If you have a any Batchelor degree then there is no problem, otherwise a CELTA
is fine. The 120 hours TELF should be OK. Possibly you could take a course while
working if necessary. I will do my best to look after any applicant I think has the ’right
stuff’.
