Details: Head of Department
Fairview International School seeks to appoint an outstanding Head of Department. As Head of Department, your role will be to lead the team within the department, ensuring all the teachers are delivering the school’s International Baccalaureate(IB) curriculum in the most effective way possible and delivering top-quality learning experiences for the students.
The Head of Department will be a member of the Curriculum Instructions and Assessment (CIA) Team, a role which not only includes ensuring that the Department is represented appropriately in collaborative academic decisions but also that your faculty remains at the highest possible levels of pedagogy as befitting the demands of international education.
You will report directly to your campus Principal as well as members of the Group’s Senior Leadership Team.
The successful applicant will be a highly skilled teacher, with the ability to motivate, inspire and engage with students in creative and innovate ways, both within and outside the classroom. You should possess an adequate array of management and leadership skills as you work with the faculty team towards our overall goal of ensuring excellent educational outcomes and a memorably schooling experience for all of our students. Like all leaders within the Fairview community, you will be expected to contribute effectively to our Continuing Professional Development programmes and any other projects or initiatives occurring within our global network of campuses. You will also be required to oversee all IB-related procedures and policies, network with key IB personnel (for training, evaluation, updates, etc.) and be responsible to ensure that your department’s standards and practices are befitting of an IB World School.
Previous experience within International Baccalaureate (IB) would be a definite advantage. The position will be a full-time renewable contract for an initial three-year period from January 2021
Overall Responsibilities
• Leading the Department to develop and sustain high standards and a culture of collaboration, learning, effectiveness and collegiality
• Managing and developing the teachers within your department and working with other colleagues within the faculty, to facilitate high achievement and efficiency across all facets of the department
• Liaising with other departments and campuses on all matters related to learning, matters related to the IB framework and curriculum, staff training, educational technology matters, field trips, marketing events, etc.
• Develop scope and sequence document, unit plans, training programs, curriculum statements and practices consistent with the IB framework and overseeing the distribution of IB resources and publications
• Representing the department as a whole within the Curriculum Instruction & Assessment (CIA) Team, attending meetings and leading whole school initiatives as required
• Maintaining a learning climate that is inclusive and safe, yet challenging and innovative, ensuring appropriate differentiation to meet the needs of students with all learning profiles without losing sight of the IB Learner Profile
• Designing, strategizing and implementing the development of learning and teaching strategies within your department, ensuring faculty staff develop innovative and effective pedagogical expertise, facilitating appropriate development opportunities for all faculty colleagues as necessary
• Regular reviewing the curriculum, analyzing the assessment data and approaches to learning in line with IB requirements and feedback from students and teachers, etc.
• Ensuring that resources are managed effectively within the faculty, in compliance with school-wide and IB requirements relating to budgets, procurement processes and facilities management
Requirements
• A relevant degree and postgraduate qualification; an international teaching qualification would be preferred.
• 5-6 years teaching in a private international school, preferably IB.
• Proven teaching skills in a subject domain, preferably English, Design Technology/ ICT, Individuals & Societies (I&S) , Science , Physical Education or Mathematics.
• The ability to lead and inspire others and to manage a team effectively, showing excellent leadership, management and administrative skills;
• The ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with teachers and other relevant professionals, parents and students;
• An understanding of current trends and challenges in international schooling and education,
• Familiar with a range of teaching, learning and assessment strategies for identifying students’ needs and supporting learning;
• A commitment to pastoral care within the school and to developing students’ skills through extra-curricular opportunities.

Ⅲ. Job Description
1. Working Hours: Monday to Friday on a semester basis;
2. Teaching Hours: 22 teaching periods per week;
3. Average Class Size: 20-25;
4. Give Lessons including planning and preparation as well as course development;
5. Conduct course assessment and student academic counseling.

Ⅳ. Job Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree or above in education or related majors;
2. Native English speaker or English skills equivalent to native level;
3. At least three years teaching experience;
4. Teaching Certificate, PGCE,QTS or equivalent is preferred;
5. Caring, suitable and safe to work with children.
