Dragon English School is a family owned business affiliated with their feeder
Kindergarten, 5 minutes walk away in the city of Magong. Magong is the major city of
Penghu, a pleasant collection of 64 islands sitting on the Tropic of Cancer in the Chinese
strait. The population is around 100,000 people, where 60% of them live in Magong city.
There are many tourist attractions on the islands that bring a busy Summer season to the
streets especially the 2 month long Firework Festival in April. Others include; crystal clear
beaches with breath taking snorkelling and diving spots, water sports such as
Windsurfing and surfing, stunning geological formations made up of basalt rocks due to
ancient volcanic explosions and many more.
The landscape is overall levelled and the wildlife is abundant in migratory birds, coral and
marine species. Penghu enjoys a long summer with hot and humid weather majority of
the time. The winter is short but windy, whereby rain is minimal.
This Teaching post is a unique and a particular choice. The lifestyle is very laid back and
it’s a contrast to a job in a city on the mainland, however Magong doesn’t lack any
essentials you may worry about it missing. This includes a Movie Theater, Music
concerts, shopping facilities and night life. Last but not least; the cost of living is quite
low, so if you want to save, Penghu would be the place to do it.

Qualifications needed: TEFL/TESOL Certification and Bachelors Degree
Applicant Requirements: MUST be of the following nationalities:
American, Australian, British, Canadian, New Zealand or South African.
Teaching Experience: New comers are welcome but at least some experience in any of
the following fields would be an advantage:
Teaching, Teaching Assistance, Early Years, Nursery, Childcare, Support Work, Youth
work, Au pair.
Contract: Minimum 1 Year.
Working Hours: Monday – Friday afternoons and evenings,
(generally 2.30 – 8.30pm)
Saturday and Sunday - Private class opportunities.
Pay Scale: 3 months probation period NT$550 p/hr
Increase after probation - NT$600 p/hr
Private Classes - NT$550 p/hr
Compulsory Training and Event Attendance:
2 weeks training prior to beginning of contract, observation of existing Teachers and
perspective Classes, (paid at a lower pay scale).
Special Vacation celebration dates are expected to be attended throughout the year e.g.
Thanks Giving and Christmas Day (during Teachers own time).
Paid Vacation:
Chinese New Year (over 1 working week in either Feb).
Public Holidays (Taiwan).
Unpaid Vacation:
Teachers are allowed to take a further 1 working week vacation.
1 month notice prior to dates requested.
Visa/ARC/Insurance:
All VISA and ARC process is expected to be paid by the Teacher.
Health Insurance 30%/pcm is expected to be paid by the Teacher.
Job specification
As a language teacher you are responsible for developing schemes of work and lesson
plans in line with particular curriculum objectives. You must facilitate learning by
establishing a relationship with all students and their families. Use your own organization
skills and learning resources to create a fun, enjoyable and accepting learning
environment in your classroom.
Language teachers develop and foster the appropriate skills and social abilities to enable
the optimum development of all children, according to their age and language ability.

They assess and record the progress of all pupils and adapt their teaching approach to
each individuals needs. Teachers must be flexible and understand their students and
where they can engage their families in their learning.
Children age and class size: Ranging between 3-16 years, attending relevant age and
ability classes of 3 – 20 students.
