Ethiopia (Addis Ababa)
Required Degrees: Teacher qualification or ESL certification
Fields of Expertise: ESL/EFL , ESL to Children , Kindergarten , High School ,
Details: Education in Ethiopia
This rapid urban development is fuelling growth in the Ethiopian schooling sector and creating on-going demand for native English speaking teachers, particularly as the Ethiopian curriculum is taught in English from Year 5. Most of this demand is in the non-government sector which offers a low to moderate fee structure. Approximately 50percent of school children in Addis Abeba are enrolled in non-government schools.
Teaching Opportunities
Although there is ongoing demand throughout the year, it is strongest for the start of the academic year in September. This year schools are looking to recruit qualified primary and secondary (maths/science and English/humanities) teachers. There are also some openings to teach English in the Kinder/Pre-school sector and for those without a degree but with a recognized ESL qualification. In addition, there is a vacancy for a primary school principal to lead a new school.
Teachers Remuneration
Remuneration packages vary from school to school and may include assistance with airfares, work and residency permits, monthly salary and the provision of accommodation or an accommodation allowance.
